The Intern (2015)
The Intern (2015) is a buddy comedy-drama film from American director, writer, and producer Nancy Meyers. At 70 years old, Ben Whittaker is a widower who has retired from his role as an executive at DEX One. However, he finds retirement to be too mundane and applies for the new position of senior intern at About The Fit – an e-commerce fashion startup located in Brooklyn. Despite initial doubts from CEO Jules Ostin, Ben impresses his colleagues with his amiable personality and wise insights on life and work. One day, he takes it upon himself to organize Jules’s messy desk which she had complained about, earning her appreciation. After work, Ben notices the chauffeur drinking and persuades him to leave so that he can drive Jules home himself – a duty that he will take on in the days to come.
During their initial drive together, Ben inquires about Jules’ personal life, prompting her to request a different driver from her VP, Cameron. However, they unexpectedly connect later that night when Jules discovers that Ben spent nearly four decades working in the same building as About the Fit’s headquarters. The following day, Jules is informed by Cameron that Doris has replaced Ben as her driver, but she quickly realizes Doris’ driving skills are lacking and apologizes to Ben for asking him to leave. Thankfully, he returns and becomes a valuable asset to Jules by assisting with her tasks. In addition to this, Ben also develops a romantic relationship with Fiona, the company’s in-house masseuse.
