The Invisible Guest (2016)
The Invisible Guest (2016) is a Spanish mystery thriller film directed and co-written by Oriol Paulo. Businessman Adrián Doria is out on bail after being arrested for the murder of his lover, Laura Vidal. His lawyer, Félix Leiva, hires attorney Virginia Goodman to assist with his case. After finding out that the prosecutor has a witness who will testify in front of a judge within three hours, Virginia visits Adrián at his apartment and encourages him to tell her everything. Adrián reveals that he and Laura had been blackmailed into going to a rural hotel with €100,000. However, upon arriving, he was knocked unconscious and woke up to find Laura dead in the bathroom. The police found him as the only suspect since all doors and windows were locked from inside. As they continue their drive back to Barcelona, Adrián also recalls how he had actually lied about being in Paris and was with Laura in a cabin instead. Unfortunately, while swerving to avoid hitting a deer, they ended up causing an accident involving another car and a tree.
Despite being uninjured, the driver of the other car, Daniel Garrido, unfortunately passed away. Laura justifies that they are not entirely to blame for the accident as Daniel was distracted by texting and not wearing a seatbelt. In an attempt to conceal the body from another passing vehicle, Laura and Adrián act out a fake exchange of insurance information. When Daniel’s phone rings, Laura pretends to answer it before the driver leaves. While waiting for a tow truck in Adrián’s car, which won’t start, Adrián secretly disposes of Daniel’s car and body in a nearby lake. Later on, when Adrián picks her up, Laura informs him about how she managed to get his car repaired. Thanks to the help of an automotive engineer named Tomás who happened to pass by, pretending she had hit a deer. He kindly towed her car back to his house for repairs.
