Accusing them of abandoning him to die while injured on an African safari they went on together, Robert demands his share of the diamond fields they discovered during that trip.
However, Jasper tries to explain that those assets were lost due to poor investments. Despite their attempts to defend themselves, Robert remains convinced that they intentionally betrayed him. Despite his refusal to back down, Robert threatens to sue the Herricks. In an attempt to appease him, they offer him a share of the Shortlands estate. However, Robert suggests a different solution – that they arrange for him to marry Julie. After making this statement, Lady Irene drugs Robert and he passes out in their home. The Herricks come to the realization that Robert has lost his mind. Although they fear his potential actions if they do not comply with his demands, they have no qualms about stealing the partnership agreement they all agreed upon or pushing him further into insanity with their betrayal.
