In search of assistance, he turns to Terry Silver, a former Green Beret who has made a fortune in toxic chemicals. Silver promises to help Kreese rebuild Cobra Kai and enact revenge on Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi. While Kreese takes a vacation in Tahiti, Silver recruits national karate champion Mike Barnes to compete against Daniel in the upcoming All-Valley Tournament. Upon returning from Okinawa, Daniel and Miyagi discover that their apartment complex has been demolished, leaving them both without a place to live. With Daniel’s mother caring for an ill family member in New Jersey, he moves in with Miyagi for the time being.
Using his college funds, Daniel helps finance Miyagi’s bonsai shop and is made a partner in the business as a result. During a visit to a nearby pottery store, he becomes friends with Jessica Andrews, the sole employee who happens to be visiting from Columbus, Ohio. Despite learning that she has a boyfriend back home, Daniel and Jessica remain on friendly terms. As Miyagi teaches Daniel kata training, Silver – who served in the Vietnam War with Kreese – arrives and shares news of Kreese’s passing while apologizing on his behalf. However, things take a turn for the worse when Barnes and Silver’s underlings Dennis and Snake begin harassing Daniel and Jessica, causing damage to Miyagi’s shop and stealing all of his bonsai trees.
