The Last Days (2013) is a Spanish science fiction thriller film directed by David and Àlex Pastor. In the post-apocalyptic setting of downtown Barcelona, an office worker named Marc struggles to survive and find food in a city that has been devastated by disaster. He is tasked with digging a tunnel in the basement of a building, and his desperation to find out the fate of his girlfriend Julia, who was with him during the catastrophic event, leads him to nearly cause a collapse. Later on, when they reach a neighboring building, Marc encounters his ex-boss Enrique, who promises to talk to him at a later time. Through a flashback, it is revealed that Marc’s job as a computer engineer was in jeopardy due to Enrique. Fearing losing his job, he resists Julia’s desire to start a family. The next day, Marc watches a video of a boy who tragically takes his life because his agoraphobia was not understood or believed by his father.
At the moment, three months following the unspecified incident, Marc and Enrique are discussing their departure from the building together. With a working GPS device in hand, Enrique asks that Marc keeps it between them and not mention it to the others. Marc confesses to taking supplies that once belonged to their deceased coworker, Rovira. At first, Enrique dismisses the scavenged items and declines to team up with Marc. However, Marc resorts to blackmailing Enrique into assisting him in search of Julia. Together, they embark into the subway system where a young pickpocket steals the GPS device. A pursuit ensues and during a struggle over his belongings, Enrique ends up killing Javier, the brother of the pickpocket. After a power outage occurs, Marc is worried that Enrique will continue without him but relieved when he agrees to continue their partnership.
