The American musical drama film, The Lion King (2019), is directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Fairview Entertainment. It is a computer-animated remake of the 1994 traditionally animated film of the same name. In the African Pride Lands, a pride of lions reigns over the animal kingdom from Pride Rock. King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi introduce their newborn son, Simba, to the other animals with Rafiki, the shaman and advisor of the kingdom. As Mufasa shows Simba around the Pride Lands, he also teaches him about his responsibilities as king and the concept of the “circle of life”. However, Mufasa’s brother Scar desires to be king and devises a plan to eliminate both Mufasa and Simba. One day, while exploring an elephant graveyard with his best friend Nala, Simba encounters a group of hyenas led by Shenzi who chase after them. After hearing about this from his majordomo Zazu, Mufasa comes to their rescue.

Despite Simba’s disobedience and reckless actions that endangered himself and Nala, Mufasa chooses to forgive him. He reassures his son that the great kings of the past are watching over them from the night sky, where he will one day join them in looking after Simba. In the meantime, Scar visits the hyenas and manipulates them into aiding him in his plan to overthrow Mufasa. In exchange for hunting rights in the Pride Lands, Scar enlists their help in executing a trap to kill his brother and nephew. By leading Simba into a gorge and causing a stampede with the help of the hyenas, Scar hopes to end both their lives. When Mufasa hears of Simba’s danger, he rushes to save him but ends up hanging precariously from the gorge’s edge. Despite pleading for his brother’s aid, Scar chooses not to help and allows Mufasa to fall to his death. Later on, Scar deceives Simba into believing that he is responsible for Mufasa’s tragic demise and orders him to leave the Pride Lands forever.
