The Lost City (2022)

The Nee brothers directed The Lost City (2022), an American romantic action-adventure comedy film based on a story by Seth Gordon. Co-written by Oren Uziel and Dana Fox, the screenplay follows Dr. Loretta Sage, an author of romance-adventure novels featuring her fictional heroine, Dr. Angela Lovemore, and her love interest, Dash McMahon. Despite Loretta’s tendency to keep to herself since the passing of her husband, her publisher Beth Hatten insists she go on a book tour with Alan Caprison, the cover model for Dash. However, things don’t go as planned due to Alan’s popularity as the character. Fortunately, Abigail Fairfax steps in and takes an interest in Loretta after realizing that she bases her books on factual research she did with her late archaeologist husband. Fairfax reveals that she discovered a lost city on a remote Atlantic island and believes it holds the Crown of Fire, a valuable treasure. When Loretta declines to help decipher an ancient map leading to the treasure, Fairfax takes drastic measures out of fear that a nearby volcano will destroy the site – namely chloroforming and abducting Loretta to the island.
Alan, who secretly adores Loretta, witnesses her being taken against her will. He enlists Jack Trainer, a former Navy SEAL turned CIA agent, to join him on the island and plan a rescue mission. Jack successfully infiltrates Fairfax’s compound alone and rescues Loretta, but sadly appears to have been killed in the process before they could reach the airport. This forces Loretta and Alan to escape into the surrounding jungle. As they spend a day evading Fairfax’s men, they eventually come across a nearby village. Here, after hearing a local folk song, Loretta realizes that the crown is hidden in a cenote within the jungle. But their attempt to leave is thwarted when Fairfax captures Loretta once again. In a race to save her, Alan must reveal the treasure’s whereabouts to Fairfax in order to protect them both.
