The Magnificent Seven (2016), directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Nic Pizzolatto and Richard Wenk, is a modern retelling of the acclaimed 1960 film with the same title. Inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, Fuqua brings his unique vision to this classic story. The town of Rose Creek is under the ruthless control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue, and the desperate townspeople turn to seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and guns-for-hire for protection. As they prepare for the inevitable showdown with Bogue, these mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than just money. In a small town where the residents are being forced to sell their land at an unfair price by Bogue, one brave citizen is killed standing up to him.
His wife sets out to seek help and witnesses a lone man taking down multiple enemies with ease in another town. She approaches him and requests his assistance. At first, Sam Chisolm shows no interest, until he learns about Bogue. He enlists the help of a man he witnessed handling himself skillfully- Faraday. As they encounter other skilled men, their group grows to seven. They head to the town and defeat Bogue’s men. Chisolm sends one of Bogue’s men with a message for him. Afterwards, Chisolm addresses the townspeople, warning them that Bogue will return with an army of bandits and they must prepare themselves.
