The Man with One Red Shoe (1985)
The American comedy film The Man with One Red Shoe (1985), directed by Stan Dragoti and starring Tom Hanks and Dabney Coleman, is a remake of the 1972 French film The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe, which features Pierre Richard and Mireille Darc. In the plot, a CIA agent is detained in Morocco on charges of drug smuggling. It turns out that CIA deputy director Burton Cooper is behind the operation, hoping to use it as leverage for his own gain. Despite being aware of Cooper’s involvement, CIA Director Ross claims ignorance when questioned by a Senate committee about the arrest. The committee orders a thorough investigation and gives Ross only 48 hours to provide satisfactory answers.
Ross hatches a plan to take down Cooper. Aware that Cooper’s home is under sound surveillance, he leaks a false rumor about an individual arriving at the airport who could clear his name of the scandal. Instructing his assistant Brown to pick up this individual, Ross sets the wheels in motion. Eager to uncover the identity of this mysterious man, Cooper dispatches his own agents to follow Brown’s every move. Little do they know, Brown has been directed to select a random person from the crowd at the airport, leaving Cooper and his team on a fruitless pursuit. As fate would have it, Brown spots a peculiar man coming down an escalator wearing mismatched shoes and chooses him as their target.
