The Matrix Revolutions (2003), the third film in The Matrix series, was released six months after prior and was written and directed by the Wachowskis. It picks up immediately after the events of The Matrix Reloaded. Neo and Bane are still unconscious on the ship Hammer’s medical bay when the movie begins. Inside the Matrix, Neo is stuck in a zone called Mobil Ave, situated between the machine world and the Matrix. Here, he meets a group of programs, including a girl named Sati. The ‘father’ informs Neo that this area is controlled by a program called the Trainman, who is loyal to the Merovingian. Despite attempting to board a train with the group of programs, Neo is overpowered by the Trainman who refuses to let him leave. Seraph communicates with Morpheus and Trinity on behalf of the Oracle, who tells them about Neo’s situation. In order to rescue Neo from his confinement, Seraph joins forces with Morpheus and Trinity as they enter Club Hel to confront and coerce the Merovingian into releasing Neo.
Haunted by visions of the Machine City, Neo seeks the guidance of the Oracle. She reveals that Smith’s plan is to destroy not only the Matrix, but also the real world. Reminding him that ‘all beginnings have an end’, she imparts this cautionary message before he departs. However, as Neo leaves, a swarm of Smiths overtakes Sati and Seraph. The Oracle does not resist their assimilation and thus grants Smith the power of precognition. Meanwhile, in the real world, Niobe’s crew on the Nebuchadnezzar and the Hammer find and reactivate her ship, the Logos. They interrogate Bane, who claims to have no memory of the massacre he committed earlier. As plans are made to defend Zion against an impending attack by Smith’s army, Neo expresses his desire to journey to the Machine City. Inspired by her encounter with the Oracle, Niobe offers him her ship for this mission.
