The Morning Show (2019 — 2024)
The American drama television series, The Morning Show (2019–2024), premiered on Apple TV+ on November 1, 2019. It also aired as Morning Wars in Australia and Indonesia. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carell, the show is based on Brian Stelter’s book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. The series delves into the behind-the-scenes world of a network morning news program and explores various perspectives surrounding a male co-anchor’s sexual misconduct allegations. Subsequent seasons tackle political and current events such as #MeToo movement, COVID-19 pandemic, racial inequality, Capitol riot, and Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The previous morning show co-host, the scandal-plagued Mitch Kessler, had a fallout and was no longer a part of the popular New York City TV station. In order to fill the gap, the station hired Bradley Jackson, a spunky and progressive journalist from the South, as their new co-host. The ambitious station head manager Cory Ellison saw an opportunity for career advancement in her hiring. Meanwhile, Alex Levy, the show’s other popular co-host, was unhappy about having to work with a newcomer and attempted to turn Bradley into an ally to strengthen her own position. Mitch, determined not to go down without a fight, aimed to bring down anyone at the station who had knowledge of his scandal but chose to stay silent. Other key players included Chip Black, the cynical producer of the show; Hannah Shoenfeld, an employee at the station and one of Mitch’s victims; Yanko Flores, a charismatic reporter and fan favorite on the Morning Show; Claire Conway, a junior British employee secretly dating Yanko; and Fred, the sleazy CEO who aided Mitch in covering up his misconduct.
