The Mule (2018)

The American crime drama, The Mule (2018), was both directed and produced by Clint Eastwood, who also stars in the film. After missing his daughter Iris’s wedding to receive a prestigious lifetime award for his work as a horticulturalist in 2005, Korean War veteran Earl Stone faces the consequences of choosing his career over his family. This event leads to his daughter cutting off communication and his wife filing for divorce. Twelve years later, Earl attends his granddaughter Ginny’s wedding rehearsal without revealing that he is bankrupt and facing foreclosure on his once successful flower farm. It is during this visit that he is recruited by a drug cartel member who was informed about Earl’s financial struggles by a former employee. Agreeing to become a ‘mule’, Earl begins transporting cocaine through Illinois for the cartel.
Due to his age, ethnicity, clean criminal record, and strict driving code, Earl initially arouses little suspicion. As a result, he is entrusted with large quantities of drugs and is able to earn thousands of dollars through their delivery. Gradually, Earl becomes deeply involved with the cartel and becomes one of their top transporters. The money he earns enables him to purchase a new truck, reclaim his home, and make much-needed repairs for the local VFW organization after it suffered damage from a fire. Additionally, he generously covers Ginny’s wedding expenses and pays for her college education. Meanwhile, Agent Colin Bates relocates to the DEA office in Chicago and teams up with Agent Trevino as his partner. Their mission is to track down the cartel’s shipments to Chicago.
