The Mummy (2017)
The film directed by Alex Kurtzman, The Mummy (2017), is an American fantasy action-adventure. David Koepp, Christopher McQuarrie, and Dylan Kussman wrote the screenplay with a story also by Kurtzman, Jon Spaihts, and Jenny Lumet. It is a reboot of the Mummy franchise and was originally part of Universal’s Dark Universe. Ahmanet, a beautiful princess destined to rule Egypt, has her sacred birthright taken from her when the pharaoh produces an heir. As punishment for making a deal with the dark Egyptian deity Set, she is damned for eternity and endures torment in Mesopotamia. However, some 5,000 years later she is accidentally freed by U.S. Army Sergeant Nick Morton during a reconnaissance mission. Now unleashed once again, Ahmanet seeks to fulfill her destiny as she causes chaos in present-day London. Will Nick be able to prevent the Mummy from bringing death and despair upon our world?
As a jewel rests in the hands of a fallen crusader, present-day discoveries uncover numerous tombs of fellow knights beneath London’s catacombs. While exploring the tunnels, Dr. Henry Jekyll stumbles upon a tomb adorned with hieroglyphs, leading him to a startling realization. Through vivid recollections, Jekyll recounts the story of Princess Ahmanet, a cunning warrior destined to rule her father’s kingdom until the birth of his new son changed everything. To secure her power, Ahmanet struck a deal with Set, the god of death, betraying her own people and committing heinous acts of murder. Her ultimate plan involved using a special dagger to give Set a physical form through her lover’s body, but it was foiled by the Pharaoh’s priests who ultimately put an end to Ahmanet’s reign of terror.
