HBO’s The Nevers (2021–2023), created by Joss Whedon, is an American science fiction drama set in Victorian London. The Touched, a group primarily consisting of women, are suddenly endowed with extraordinary abilities. Within this group are two intriguing figures: Amalia True, a quick-witted widow with a mysterious past, and her best friend Penance Adair, a brilliant inventor. This highly sought-after series was given a straight-to-series order by HBO in June 2018 after competing with other networks and streaming services such as Netflix. Laura Donnelly was the first actress announced for the project in April 2019, followed by the rest of the cast in July 2019.
Set in Victorian London, the series centers on a group of people known as the Touched, who suddenly develop extraordinary abilities. Among them are Amalia True, a mysterious widow with quick fists, and her ingenious best friend Penance Adair. HBO ordered the series in June 2018 after a competitive bidding war involving Netflix and other networks. The first actress to join was Laura Donnelly in April 2019, followed by the rest of the cast in July that year. Despite its initial popularity, the show was canceled before airing its final six episodes and was removed from HBO Max on December 18, 2022. However, all 12 episodes will be available for streaming on Tubi starting February 13, 2023.
