The Night Before (1988)
The Night Before (1988), an American comedy film, stars Keanu Reeves and Lori Loughlin. In the middle of the night, teen Winston regains consciousness in an alley, unsure of how he got there. He’s wearing a white tuxedo jacket but doesn’t remember much from the previous night. As Winston pieces together his memories through flashbacks, he recalls being waylaid on his way to prom. Now, he must figure out what happened to his wallet, car keys, prom date Tara, and why a pimp named ‘Tito’ wants him dead. While searching through his pockets, Winston finds a parking stub and asks ‘Danny Boy’ for help opening and starting his car. Naively accepting Danny’s offer, Winston soon realizes that Danny has driven off with his car.
At Tara’s house to pick her up for prom, she explains that she lost a bet on a football game and is now forced to attend with the flattered but naive nerd Winston. Her police officer father warns him to take care of his daughter and have her home by midnight. After taking a wrong turn off the freeway, Winston finds himself wandering through the unfamiliar streets of East LA. As he waits at a red light, a stranger unexpectedly reaches through the car window and attempts to steal from them. Luckily, they are able to shake him off after a short distance, but unfortunately, Winston’s wallet falls into the thief’s hands. Returning to a bar he had visited earlier, Winston recalls being there with Tara. Rhonda, a prostitute whom he had previously encountered and who had warned him about accepting drinks from the bartender, greets him as if they were old friends.
