Nick Cassavetes directed a romantic drama film called The Notebook (2004). At a nursing home, an old man named Duke reads a love story from a notebook to a female patient. The story takes place in 1940 at a carnival on Seabrook Island in South Carolina. A lumber mill worker named Noah Calhoun meets 17-year-old heiress Allison ‘Allie’ Hamilton and they fall in love. Despite the initial approval from Noah’s father Frank Calhoun, Allie’s parents disapprove of their relationship. One night, Noah takes Allie to an abandoned plantation and promises to restore it for them to live in. However, their moment is interrupted when Allie’s parents send the police to find her. When they return to her parents’ mansion, Anne, Allie’s mother expresses her disapproval and prohibits her from seeing Noah. In result, Allie and Noah have an argument and she breaks up with him impulsively but quickly regrets it.

The following morning, Anne shares the news that they will be leaving for Charleston immediately. Allie attempts to apologize to Noah, but without success. Instead, she turns to Fin and asks him to convey her love to Noah. Upon hearing this, Noah rushes to Allie’s side but arrives too late. For an entire year, he faithfully writes letters to Allie, but unfortunately they are intercepted by her mother. With no response after 365 letters, he eventually stops writing in order to move on with his life. As time passes, both he and Fin join the military and fight in the Battle of the Bulge. Tragically, Fin loses his life during the battle. Meanwhile, Allie finds purpose as a nurse at a hospital where she meets Captain Lon Hammond Jr., a wealthy young lawyer from the South. Over time, they become engaged, much to the delight of Allie’s parents.
