Shane Black directs The Predator (2018), an American sci-fi action flick that he co-wrote with Fred Dekker. The fourth installment in the franchise and sixth overall, it is chronologically placed between Predator 2 (1990) and Predators (2010). An alien ship crashes on Earth during U.S. Army Ranger sniper Quinn McKenna’s hostage retrieval mission. He takes down the Predator and mails off pieces of its armor as proof of life beyond our planet. Government agent Will Traeger captures Quinn to examine him while also taking the Predator to a lab for analysis. Evolutionary biologist Casey Bracket joins the team to study the alien, revealing that it shares human DNA. The Predator wakes up, escapes its restraints and eliminates lab workers and guards, sparing only an unarmed Bracket before fleeing.
While being transported alongside other prisoners, such as former Marines ‘Nebraska’ Williams, Coyle, Baxley, Lynch, and Army helicopter pilot Nettles, Quinn witnesses the Predator’s escape from the lab. Seizing the opportunity, they overtake the bus and bring Bracket with them. Their destination: Quinn’s estranged wife, Emily. Much to his surprise, he discovers the Predator armor he had previously mailed to a PO box at her house. This was due to his negligence in paying for it, resulting in the postman delivering it to her instead. Meanwhile, Quinn’s autistic son Rory has donned the armor for protection during trick-or-treating to avoid bullies. Luckily, Quinn and the others arrive just in time to save him from a pair of Predator Hounds lying in wait. Using a well-placed grenade shot into one’s mouth and an accidental headshot from Nebraska on the other, they successfully thwart their attack.
