The Rock (1996)
The Rock (1996) is an American action thriller movie, directed by Michael Bay and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. It tells the story of Brigadier General Francis Hummel and his subordinate Major Tom Baxter, who lead a rebellious group of U.S. Force Recon Marines in a mission to steal fifteen VX gas-loaded M55 rockets from a heavily guarded naval weapons depot. The following day, Hummel takes over Alcatraz Island, capturing tourists and guards as hostages. He then contacts both the FBI and the Pentagon, making a demand for $100 million from a military slush fund. If the government fails to comply, he threatens to launch the rockets against San Francisco. The money will be distributed among his men and the families of 83 Recon Marines who died during classified missions under his command but received no compensation for their sacrifices.
The Department of Defense and the FBI join forces to devise a strategy for taking back the island with a team of elite U.S. Navy SEALs led by Commander Anderson, accompanied by top chemical weapons expert Dr. Stanley Goodspeed from the FBI, and former Alcatraz inmate John Mason. FBI Director James Womack offers Mason a pardon in exchange for his assistance, which Mason reluctantly agrees to. However, Womack goes back on his word and destroys the pardon, setting Mason up in a hotel instead. After escaping from the hotel, Mason is pursued by Goodspeed in a car chase through the streets of San Francisco before reuniting with his daughter Jade and ultimately allowing himself to be captured once again. The team manages to successfully infiltrate Alcatraz, but their presence is discovered by Hummel’s men who then ambush them in a shower room.
