The Rundown (2003) is a film directed by Peter Berg and written by James Vanderbilt and R.J. Stewart. Beck, a ‘retrieval expert’ who works for Billy Walker, is sent to a nightclub to collect a championship ring from a football player. During the job, he is attacked by one of Walker’s other collectors and decides that he wants to leave the business. However, Walker convinces Beck to take on one final task – retrieve his son Travis from a small mining town in Brazil and he will provide enough money for Beck to open his own restaurant. Despite feeling hesitant, Beck agrees and travels to Brazil. Once there, he meets the man in charge of the mining operation, Cornelius Hatcher. Hatcher initially agrees to let Beck take Travis, but later changes his mind when he learns that Travis has discovered the valuable golden artifact known as ‘O Gato do Diabo’ (The Devil’s Cat).

Hatcher and his men confront Beck at the local bar, but he manages to slip away with Travis. On their way back to the airfield, Travis veers their Jeep off the road and into the jungle. He makes an attempt to escape, but is soon apprehended by Beck. After a run-in with some nearby monkeys, they stumble upon the camp of the local resistance movement. There, Travis convinces the rebels that Beck is working for Hatcher and has been sent to eliminate them all. A scuffle ensues, during which Beck gains control until rebel leader Mariana intervenes. She desires the Gato in order to help free her people from Hatcher’s grasp. Suddenly, Hatcher and his men launch a surprise attack on the camp, resulting in numerous rebel casualties.
