The American animated comedy film The Simpsons Movie (2007) is based on Matt Groening’s popular Fox animated sitcom. Following a concert at Lake Springfield, Green Day attempts to raise awareness about the environment, but are met with a disrespectful audience who pelts them with trash. This pollution leads to the band’s barge sinking and their eventual drowning. At their memorial service, Grampa Simpson has a spiritual awakening and forewarns of a disaster that will strike Springfield. Despite his cryptic message, only Marge takes it seriously. In light of the dire state of the environment, Lisa and her new friend Colin organize a seminar and convince the town to clean up the lake. Meanwhile, Homer challenges Bart to skateboard naked to Krusty Burger, resulting in his humiliating arrest.
Homer accompanies Bart to Krusty Burger, where he rescues a pig from being harmed by Krusty. Despite Marge’s warning that the pig is tied to a prophecy, Homer chooses to keep it and names it Plopper. This fixation with Plopper annoys Bart, who turns to their neighbor Ned Flanders for guidance. Marge instructs Homer to properly dispose of an overflowing silo of Plopper’s waste, but he disregards her instructions and instead dumps it in the lake, causing severe pollution. The EPA’s Russ Cargill notifies President Arnold Schwarzenegger about Springfield’s environmental crisis and presents him with five potential solutions. The president chooses the third option at random: enclosing Springfield with a glass dome as a means of containment.
