The American slasher film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), was directed by Marcus Nispel and written by Scott Kosar. On August 18, 1973, five young adults – Erin, her boyfriend Kemper, and friends Morgan, Andy, and Pepper – were traveling to a concert after purchasing marijuana in Mexico. While driving through Texas, they picked up a distressed hitchhiker who spoke incoherently about ‘a bad man’ before tragically taking her own life. In need of assistance, the group stopped at a nearby gas station where Luda Mae instructed them to meet Sheriff Hoyt at the mill. However, upon arrival, they only found Jedidiah who informed them that Hoyt was drunk at home. In an effort to find help faster, Erin and Kemper went through the woods while Morgan, Andy, and Pepper stayed with Jedidiah at the mill. During their search for assistance, they stumbled upon a plantation house where Monty – an amputee – allowed Erin inside to make a call.
Kemper enters the building in search of Erin, only to be ambushed by Thomas ‘Leatherface’ Hewitt. Gravely injured, Kemper is dragged into the basement where he meets his gruesome fate. Leatherface discovers the ring intended for Erin and proceeds to dispose of Kemper’s body. Meanwhile, at the mill, Hoyt shows up and takes care of the dead hitchhiker’s remains. Upon realizing that Kemper is missing, Erin and Andy head back to Monty’s house. Erin distracts Monty while Andy searches for Kemper. When Monty calls upon Leatherface for assistance, a chainsaw-wielding attack ensues on Andy. In a moment of selflessness, Andy urges Erin to save herself as he faces his doom with Leatherface. As Erin flees into the woods, Leatherface catches up to Andy and brings him down to the basement. After successfully escaping to safety, Erin returns to the mill only to find Hoyt has arrived before them and may pose a new threat.
