The Third Wheel (2002), an American romantic comedy film directed by Jordan Brady, follows Stanley as he finally musters up the courage to ask out his co-worker, Diana Evans. In the meantime, their fellow office mates, including Michael, start an office pool to bet on how their first date will go. One of their colleagues even spies on them during the evening. However, things take a turn when Stanley accidentally hits a homeless man named Phil with his car while leaving their initial location. Instead of the romantic night planned, Stanley ends up offering to pay for Phil’s broken items and even takes him to the hospital when he realizes he is injured. Despite trying to make a quick getaway with Diana, Phil catches up to them and confronts them by throwing himself at Stanley’s car.

After arriving at the open air performance just in time for the second act, the group is treated to a series of monologues by famous figures. Phil, who had previously disappeared, suddenly reappears on stage to deliver a spontaneous monologue about bread, which receives a standing ovation. Once the show ends, Diana and Phil join Stanley to retrieve his car from an impound lot after accidentally parking in a tow-away zone. During their bus ride, Phil encourages everyone to interact with fellow passengers by singing. Upon reaching the impound lot, they encounter an uncooperative attendant whom Diana tries to charm with her flirty ways. After paying nearly $150, they finally retrieve Stanley’s car. Later on, Stanley plans to drop off Phil at an ATM but instead has a change of heart and invites him to join them for dinner.
