Continuing from the previous film, Bella wakes up as a newly turned vampire after giving birth. With the help of her husband Edward Cullen, she overcomes her initial thirst for blood and meets their daughter Renesmee. The Cullens and Bella’s friend Jacob are also present, but when Jacob becomes possessive towards Renesmee, Bella learns about werewolf imprinting. Meanwhile, Charlie has been trying to get updates on Bella’s health and Carlisle announces that they must leave Forks in order to protect their identities as vampires.
In a desperate attempt to keep Renesmee, Jacob seeks out Charlie and reveals that Bella is still alive, though not quite the same. He shows his wolf form as proof and convinces Charlie to stop asking questions. As a result, Charlie visits the Cullen household where he meets Bella and their daughter Renesmee. He notices that Bella is now back to health but has undergone some changes, though he remains unaware of the details and assumes Renesmee is simply adopted. Over the next few months, Carlisle keeps a close eye on Renesmee’s rapid growth. One day, while in the forest, vampire Irina sees Renesmee and mistakenly believes she is an ‘immortal child’ – a type of vampire who was turned as a child and cannot be controlled or trained, leading to uncontrollable blood consumption.
