The American romantic fantasy film, The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), was directed by Chris Weitz and written by Melissa Rosenberg. Based on Stephenie Meyer’s 2006 novel of the same name, it follows the story of Bella Swan in Forks, Washington. On her eighteenth birthday, Bella wakes up from a dream where she is elderly and her immortal vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen, remains young. Despite her reservations, Edward’s family throws her a birthday party at their home. Unfortunately, when Bella receives a paper cut and is nearly attacked by one of Edward’s vampiric relatives, he realizes that he has put her in danger among his kind. As a result, he ends their relationship and the Cullens leave town. Bella falls into a deep depression and isolates herself for months until she accepts a ride from a tough-looking biker. This experience triggers memories of when Edward saved her from an almost-assault in the past.
Through this dangerous encounter, she comes to understand that engaging in risky activities causes her to see hallucinations of Edward. Her Quileute friend Jacob Black helps her cope with her depression and reveals that his friends follow Sam, another Quileute leader. While watching a movie with Bella, Jacob suddenly experiences pain and departs. Later, he surprises everyone by cutting his long hair and getting the same Quileute tattoo on his upper right arm as Sam and the rest of their tribe. Without explanation, he warns Bella to stay away from him. However, when Bella ventures to the meadow they used to frequent with Edward, she is met with a vampire bent on avenging Edward’s past slaying of one of their own. As Bella’s life hangs in the balance, a pack of wolves intervenes and rescues her.
