The film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022) is an American action comedy directed by Tom Gormican. Gormican also co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Etten. Renowned Hollywood star Nicolas Cage has been struggling with his career recently, due to constant rejection for major film roles. To make matters worse, he is constantly harassed by a pesky version of himself from his successful youth. Cage’s relationship with his ex-wife Olivia and daughter Addy has also suffered due to years of emotional neglect. After facing humiliation at Addy’s birthday party and losing an important movie role, Cage decides it’s time to retire from acting. However, he receives an intriguing offer from his agent Richard Fink – a vague invitation to be a guest of honor at billionaire playboy Javi Gutierrez’s birthday in Majorca for $1 million. It is suspected that Javi, who has allegedly amassed wealth through illegal arms trading, orchestrated the abduction of Maria, the daughter of a Catalan politician fighting against crime. It is believed that this was done with the intention of pressuring the politician to withdraw from an upcoming election. Despite Cage’s insistence that his acting skills are sharp enough to detect any signs of criminal behavior in Javi, he ultimately decides to aid the CIA in their mission. With the cameras successfully installed at Javi’s residence, Cage attends a party and publicly announces their collaboration on a new film as a cover for staying longer and searching for Maria. A run-in with LSD leads Cage and Javi to decide that their new movie should center around their relationship. While exploring the compound, Cage finds a room dedicated to all of Javi’s films, complete with a wax figure of his character Castor Troy from Face/Off and matching golden guns. Vivian proposes including a kidnapping plot in their screenplay as an excuse to observe Javi’s reaction.
