The American film, The Untouchables (1987), was directed by Brian De Palma, produced by Art Linson, and written by David Mamet. It is set in Chicago during Prohibition, where notorious gangster Al Capone controls the illegal liquor industry. Bureau of Prohibition agent Eliot Ness is assigned to stop Capone’s illegal activities. His first attempt at a raid is unsuccessful due to corrupt police officers tipping off Capone. However, he meets veteran officer James Malone, who opposes corruption and offers to assist Ness. Malone suggests recruiting an officer from the police academy who has not been influenced by Capone and still believes in the principles of law enforcement. They choose George Stone (born Giuseppe Petri), an Italian-American trainee known for his shooting skills and integrity.

With the help of accountant Oscar Wallace, who was sent to assist Ness all the way from Washington, D.C., they effectively conduct a raid on one of Capone’s liquor warehouses. This results in them receiving positive attention from the media, who quickly dubs them ‘The Untouchables’. Seeking to make an example out of the manager who allowed this raid to occur, Capone brutally murders him with a baseball bat as a warning to his other employees. Upon learning that Capone has neglected to file an income tax return for four consecutive years, Wallace proposes building a case against him for tax evasion, as his wide-reaching network makes it difficult to prosecute him for any other crimes. However, despite facing pressure and even a bribe from a corrupt alderman, Ness stands his ground and refuses to drop the investigation.
