The Usual Suspects (1995)
The crime thriller film, The Usual Suspects (1995), directed by Bryan Singer and written by Christopher McQuarrie, follows a group of criminals. One of them, Dean Keaton, is found dying on a ship in San Pedro Bay after a confrontation with a mysterious figure known as ‘Keyser’. The ship is set on fire, leaving only two survivors: Arkosh Kovash, a Hungarian mobster with severe burns, and Roger ‘Verbal’ Kint, a con artist with physical disabilities. U.S. Customs agent Dave Kujan flies from New York City to Los Angeles to interrogate Verbal while FBI agent Jack Baer visits Kovash in the hospital. The interrogation takes place in an office borrowed from LAPD police sergeant Jeff Rabin. Through Verbal’s flashbacks, the events leading up to their encounter on the ship are revealed.
Six weeks earlier in New York City, Keaton and Verbal are arrested alongside three other criminals for a truck hijacking. Despite claiming innocence, they are placed in a police lineup and harassed by the authorities. Fed up with the situation, Michael McManus suggests seeking revenge by pulling off a heist targeting corrupt cops. While initially hesitant, Keaton eventually joins in on the plan to rob a jewel smuggler. The successful heist results in millions of dollars worth of emeralds and over fifty corrupt cops being arrested after their illegal activities are leaked to the press. The group then travels to California to sell the jewels through Redfoot, who introduces them to another possible heist involving China White (a synthetic heroin). However, things do not go as planned and their true intentions are revealed.
