Created by Chris McCulloch and Doc Hammer for Adult Swim, The Venture Bros. (2003–2018) is a popular American adult animated action comedy series that first premiered on August 7, 2004, with a pilot episode airing on February 16, 2003. Over its fifteen-year production period, the show has been praised for its writing, characters, humor, animation, and world building. Despite being one of Adult Swim’s longest-running original shows in terms of years, it only produced seven seasons during this time. Its final episode aired on October 7, 2018, after a total of 81 episodes and four specials. Sadly, on September 7, 2020, series creator Jackson Publick announced on Twitter that the beloved series had been canceled.
The show follows the Venture family, including their emotionally insecure and unethical but brilliant father Dr. Thaddeus ‘Rusty’ Venture, his well-meaning but bumbling twin sons Hank and Dean, their bodyguard Brock Samson or temporary replacement Sergeant Hatred, and their self-proclaimed nemesis The Monarch – a butterfly-themed supervillain. It was first meant to satirize boy adventurer and Space Age tales from the 1960s, but has evolved into an action-packed series with both comedy and drama.
