The X-Files (1998) is an American science fiction thriller film adapted from Chris Carter’s well-known television series. During the Ice Age in 35,000 B.C., two cavemen in what would later become North Texas encountered an alien life form in a cave. One was killed and the other was infected by a dark liquid-like substance. Many centuries later, in 1998, a young boy falls into a hole and is also infected by the same substance seeping from the ground. When firefighters enter to rescue him, they do not make it back out. In response, a team of men wearing hazmat suits is sent to retrieve their bodies as well as the boy’s. Meanwhile, FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are investigating a bomb threat at a federal building in Dallas when they discover that the actual bomb is located in another building nearby.
As they evacuate the building, Agent Darius Michaud stays behind under the guise of disarming the bomb but ultimately just waits for it to explode. After the bombing, Mulder and Scully face criticism for not only having Michaud with them, but also four other individuals in the building. That night, Mulder is confronted by Dr. Alvin Kurtzweil, a paranoid doctor who claims that the ‘victims’ were already dead and the explosion was staged to hide their true cause of death. At the hospital morgue, Scully conducts an examination on one of the victims and discovers signs of an alien virus. At the same time, the Cigarette Smoking Man travels to Texas where he meets with Dr. Ben Bronschweig. Together they witness one of the lost firefighters who has been infected with an alien organism.
