The supernatural thriller, The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008), was directed by Chris Carter and co-written by Carter and Frank Spotnitz. After leaving the FBI, former Special Agent Dana Scully now works as a staff physician at a Catholic hospital where she is treating Christian, a young boy with symptoms similar to Sandhoff disease. FBI Special Agent Mosely Drummy seeks out Scully’s aid in locating her ex-partner, Fox Mulder, who has been on the run for several years. To call off their manhunt for Mulder, the FBI tasks him with investigating the disappearances of multiple women in West Virginia, including fellow agent Monica Bannan. Though hesitant at first, Scully manages to persuade Mulder to join the investigation.

After being directed to a severed human arm by Father Joseph Fitzpatrick Crissman, who was dismissed from the priesthood for victimizing thirty-seven altar boys, FBI Special Agent in Charge Dakota Whitney enlists Mulder’s assistance in unraveling the paranormal aspects of the case. Soon after, another woman is taken by Janke Dacyshyn, a truck driver who purposely runs her off the road, and Father Joe is again sought out for his visions from God. Ultimately, through examining the remains, they are led to Richmond, Virginia where Franz Tomczeszyn and his partner Dacyshyn work as organ transporters.
