Thick as Thieves (2009)
Thick as Thieves (2009) is an action-packed American/German heist thriller directed by Mimi Leder. In New York, experienced thief Keith Ripley enlists the help of a younger criminal, Gabriel Martin, to execute a final job and pay off his debt to the Russian mafia. Their previous partner, Victor Korolenko, was killed before they could complete the plan. Despite initially being hesitant about Ripley’s trustworthiness, Martin is convinced otherwise by Ripley’s goddaughter Alexandra Korolenko, Victor’s daughter. However, tensions arise as Ripley disapproves of their growing closeness. He reveals their target: a Russian museum that has been smuggling treasures into the country and bribing the NYPD with lavish donations and equipment. To gather information about the museum’s vault, they attend a party there disguised as cops – Ripley as Lt. Weber, who holds a grudge against him.
The Russian mafia, led by Nicky Petrovitch, grows impatient and abducts Alexandra. They demand that Ripley steal two Fabergé eggs from the Russian Museum in order to secure her release. After successfully breaking into the museum and retrieving the eggs, Ripley teams up with Martin, who later reveals himself as an undercover cop planted by Weber to capture Ripley. Martin betrays Ripley by locking him in the vault and alerting Weber. He then delivers the stolen eggs to Petrovitch in exchange for Alexandra’s freedom. However, Petrovitch discovers that the eggs are actually made of wood. At the same time, Weber’s team enters the museum but is intercepted by security guards due to Martin falsely identifying himself as a police officer during his escape.
