Three Days of the Condor (1975)
The American political thriller film, Three Days of the Condor (1975), directed by Sydney Pollack, follows Joe Turner – a bookish CIA analyst with the codename ‘Condor’. He works undercover at the American Literary Historical Society in New York City. The team’s job is to analyze books, newspapers, and magazines from all over the world to compare them to real CIA operations or gather new ideas. One day, while on lunch duty, Turner comes across a strange thriller novel that he reports back to CIA headquarters despite its low sales and translations into various languages. Upon returning from his lunch break through a back door, he discovers his colleagues dead and quickly becomes fearful for his own life. In a state of panic, he grabs a gun and flees the building as armed men enter.
Using a payphone, he makes contact with the CIA’s New York headquarters in the World Trade Center and receives instructions to meet with his department head, Wicks, for safety. Wanting someone familiar by his side during this meeting, Turner requests that Wicks bring along Sam Barber, a non-field CIA employee and college friend. However, their rendezvous turns out to be a trap and Turner is forced to defend himself, injuring Wicks in the process. In an attempt to eliminate any witnesses, Wicks then kills Barber and falsely accuses Turner of both shootings. But before he can face any consequences for his actions, Wicks is surprisingly killed by an unknown intruder while in the hospital. Alone and on the run, Turner meets Kathy Hale who he coerces into providing him shelter at her apartment.
