The American neo-noir psychological mystery crime action thriller film, Tightrope (1984), was both directed and written by Richard Tuggle. The main focus of the movie is a young woman who is stalked while walking home from her birthday party. Upon dropping one of her presents, a supposed police officer offers to walk her to her front door. However, it is later revealed that this policeman is actually the stalker himself. The following day, divorced New Orleans detective Wes Block and his daughters Penny and Amanda, discover a stray dog and decide to take it in despite already having several strays at home. As they prepare to attend a Saints game together as a family, Block receives a call about a crime scene and has to leave his daughters behind.

It turns out that the young woman from the previous night has been strangled in her own bed. The killer had no fingerprints at the scene but had waited until midnight, even stopping to make himself coffee before carrying out the gruesome act. As Block checks in on the victims at a different brothel, he engages in intimate activities with a prostitute. Unbeknownst to them, the lurking killer observes their actions. The following day, Block is summoned to investigate yet another victim, only to discover it is the same prostitute from the previous night. In an effort to further his investigation, Block playfully interacts with Thibodeaux and they spend the remainder of the day together.
