Tomorrowland (2015) is an American science fiction film directed by Brad Bird, with a screenplay by Bird and Damon Lindelof, based on a story written by Bird, Lindelof, and Jeff Jensen. In 1964, a young boy named Frank Walker attends the New York World’s Fair to sell his prototype jet pack. Despite his efforts, he is rejected due to its malfunction. Fortunately, Frank meets Athena, a young girl who gives him an orange lapel pin with a blue ‘T’ embossed on it and instructs him to follow her onto Walt Disney’s ‘It’s a Small World’ attraction at the Pepsi-Cola Pavilion. Frank follows her lead and sneaks onto the ride where the pin is scanned by a laser. This transports him to Tomorrowland, an advanced futuristic cityscape where robots repair his jetpack and allow him to fly freely. In present day, teenager Casey Newton takes action against the planned demolition of a NASA launch site in Florida as she remains hopeful for the future.
Eddie, a NASA engineer, is at risk of losing his job. Casey gets caught and taken into custody. At the station, she discovers a pin in her possession that transports her to Tomorrowland when touched. However, her journey is cut short when the pin’s battery dies and she becomes stranded in a lake. Luckily, Casey’s younger brother Nate comes to her aid and together they track down a Houston memorabilia shop related to the pin. The shop owners become hostile when Casey cannot reveal where she obtained the pin, accusing her of knowing about a ‘little girl’. Athena suddenly appears and defeats the animatronic shop owners before they self-destruct and destroy the store. With the help of Athena, who turns out to be an animatronic with the purpose of recruiting individuals who align with Tomorrowland’s ideals, Casey steals a car and they make their way to Frank’s house in Pittsfield, New York.
