Tooth Fairy (2010)
The American fantasy comedy family film, Tooth Fairy (2010), directed by Michael Lembec, follows the story of Derek Thompson, a minor league ice hockey player with the nickname ‘Tooth Fairy’. Due to his aggressive playing style, he often knocks out opposing players’ teeth. One night, he takes a dollar from his girlfriend’s young daughter’s lost tooth and tells her that the tooth fairy isn’t real. Soon after, he finds a magical Summons under his pillow, giving him wings and transporting him to the world of tooth fairies. There, he meets his caseworker Tracy and head fairy Lily, who he quickly clashes with. Lily accuses Derek of being a “dream crusher” for his lack of empathy towards kids like Tess and sentences him to two weeks as a tooth fairy.
Later, he meets Jerry, who supplies him with necessary tools for his role as a tooth fairy. These include ‘Shrinking Paste’, ‘Invisible Spray’, ‘dog peppermints’, ‘Amnesia Dust’, ‘cat away’ and a magic wand that requires belief to function. Randy, Carly’s 14-year-old son, is not fond of Derek, as he dreams of becoming a heavy metal star. However, after Derek stands up for Randy against a bully, their relationship begins to improve. In an attempt to help Randy win a talent show, Derek offers to teach him how to play the electric guitar better. Despite his best efforts, Derek faces numerous obstacles and unfortunate incidents that hinder his performance as a tooth fairy. Lily expresses her disappointment in Derek’s lack of faith in children and denies him any further supplies from Jerry for the remainder of his sentence. Feeling discouraged, Derek receives an unexpected offer from Ziggy – a fairy who deals in black market goods.
