The film, Tower Heist (2011), directed by Brett Ratner and written by Ted Griffin and Jeff Nathanson, is based on a story by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Griffin. Josh Kovaks manages The Tower, a luxurious apartment complex in New York City with Wall Street mogul Arthur Shaw living in the penthouse. As a favor to Shaw, Josh entrusts him with the hotel staff’s pension fund. However, when the FBI discovers Shaw’s involvement in a Ponzi scheme that has embezzled around $2 billion, he is put under house arrest. This news devastates the staff members who fear losing their pensions. In fact, Lester, the doorman, becomes so distressed that he attempts suicide. After confronting Shaw for his actions in a fit of anger, Josh and his brother-in-law are fired from their jobs at The Tower along with their colleague Charlie and elevator operator Enrique.

FBI Agent Claire Denham, in charge of Shaw’s case, drunkenly suggests to Josh that Shaw has hidden away $20 million as a reserve. She proposes that he should steal it. Josh enlists the help of Charlie, Enrique, and Mr. Fitzhugh, who was evicted from the Tower. To make up for their lack of experience, they bring in Slide, a childhood friend of Josh’s who is known for his petty crimes, and Odessa, the tower’s maid with locksmith skills. Denham discloses that Shaw will be attending court on Thanksgiving during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to avoid media attention. With this in mind, Josh and his team decide to break into Shaw’s apartment on that day. In the meantime, Charlie is rehired as the Tower’s new manager but feels uneasy about the plan. He warns Josh to reconsider or threatens to turn him over to the police.
