Toy Story of Terror (2013)

The Halloween special Toy Story of Terror (2013) is a collaborative effort between Pixar Animation Studios and Disney Television Animation, distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. During a road trip to visit Bonnie’s grandmother, she has tagged along her beloved group of toys – Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Rex, Mr. Pricklepants, Mr. Potato Head, and Trixie. While on the journey, the toys are engrossed in a horror movie on a portable DVD player kept in the car’s trunk. As fate would have it, their trip is cut short due to a flat tire and they are forced to spend the night at the Sleep Well roadside motel since help won’t arrive until morning. As Bonnie and her mother doze off for the night, her toys come out of hiding to explore the unfamiliar room – only to find that Mr. Potato Head has gone missing. From this point on, Mr. Pricklepants takes charge as he narrates each event with an air of authority like it’s all part of some spine-chilling horror flick.

The toys scour the motel for Mr. Potato Head, but an iguana known as Mr. Jones takes several of them, leaving only Jessie. In a restroom, Jessie encounters Combat Carl, an action figure who was separated from his owner, Billy. Combat Carl urges Jessie to escape to her owner for safety, however she remains determined to rescue her friends. The iguana returns and snatches both Combat Carl and Jessie. It is then revealed that the iguana belongs to Ron, the manager of the motel. Ron has trained Mr. Jones to steal abandoned toys and other items from guests so he can sell them in online auctions. Jessie is placed in a glass cabinet along with her friends, Combat Carl, and other stolen toys in a back room of Ron’s office. As dawn approaches, Woody is sold online and packed into a box by Ron. Shortly after, Jessie is also sold but Ron becomes distracted by the arrival of a tow truck and leaves her on the counter.
