Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) is an American science fiction action film inspired by Hasbro’s popular toy line. Decades earlier, a Cybertronian spaceship known as the Ark crashes on the dark side of the Moon and is discovered by NASA. In order to investigate, President John F. Kennedy approves a mission to land on the Moon, which takes place in 1969 with Apollo 11. Unbeknownst to the public, the astronauts also explore the crashed spaceship before returning to Earth. In present day, the Autobots work alongside humans to prevent major conflicts. During a mission to investigate possible alien technology at Chernobyl, they are attacked by Decepticon scientist Shockwave and his massive worm-like creation, Driller. Following their escape, Optimus Prime makes a remarkable discovery – the technology is none other than a fuel cell from the long-lost Ark that had escaped Cybertron.
Determined to uncover the truth, the Autobots embark on a journey to the Moon where they stumble upon Sentinel Prime, their former leader who has been in a comatose state. To their surprise, they also find five Pillars created by Sentinel himself, which serve as a way to establish a ‘Space Bridge’, enabling matter to be teleported through wormholes. Meanwhile, on Earth, Optimus uses his powers from the Matrix of Leadership to revive Sentinel. As for Sam Witwicky, he now lives with his girlfriend Carly Spencer but is prohibited from assisting the Autobots. In an unfortunate event at his new job, Sam’s colleague Jerry Wang shares crucial information about the Ark before being killed by Laserbeak – one of the Decepticons. It later comes to light that these ruthless enemies are targeting individuals linked to both American and Soviet space missions that were related to the Ark.
