Trapped (2002)
Trapped (2002), a crime thriller directed by Luis Mandoki, follows the story of Dr. Will Jennings, a research physician who has recently patented a new anesthetic drug. After giving a talk about his patent at a Seattle hotel, he is approached by Cheryl, a mysterious woman who claims to be a fan of his work. In the hotel hallway, Cheryl makes advances towards Will before pulling out a gun and forcing him into his room. She then demands ransom for his daughter Abby. Meanwhile, Joe – Cheryl’s husband – breaks into Will’s luxurious Portland home and confronts Karen, Will’s wife who had just come back from picking up Abby at school. Faced with Joe’s gun, Karen’s attempts to defend herself are unsuccessful and she is taken hostage while her daughter is sent away with Joe’s cousin Marvin.
Marvin takes Abby to a secluded cabin in the woods, but soon learns about her asthma and reliance on an inhaler. When she has an attack, he calls Joe in a panic. After agreeing to help, Joe drives Karen to the cabin with her eyes covered for secrecy. With the help of Karen’s medication, Abby’s attack is successfully stopped. However, Joe quickly returns Karen to her home and she tries to resist him before he subdues her. When unexpected guest Joan arrives, Karen is forced to pretend that she is having an affair with Joe. Later, when left alone, Karen lashes out at Joe with a hidden scalpel before locking herself in the bathroom. In the midst of all this chaos, Abby manages to sneak out of the cabin and call Karen on Marvin’s phone.
