Tremors (1990), an American monster comedy horror film directed by Ron Underwood, follows handymen Val McKee and Earl Bassett as they work in the isolated settlement of Perfection, Nevada. Growing tired of their jobs, the duo decides to leave for Bixby, the nearest town. As they depart, they stumble upon the lifeless body of resident Edgar Deems perched atop an electrical tower with his rifle in hand. The town’s doctor Jim Wallace determines that Edgar suffered from dehydration and was too afraid to climb down. Soon after, shepherd Fred and his flock are found dead by an unseen creature. Val and Earl discover Fred’s severed head and suspect a serial killer is on the loose. Despite their warnings, two construction workers ignore their concerns and meet a similar fate at the hands of the mysterious creature, causing a rock slide.
After alerting the townspeople, Val and Earl search for assistance, but encounter dead phone lines and a road blocked by a rock slide. Without their knowledge, a serpentine creature coils around the back axle of their truck, only to be destroyed when Val hits the gas and speeds away. Upon returning to town, they come across horses which they use to ride to Bixby for aid. While traveling, they stumble upon Wallace and his wife’s buried station wagon near their trailer; however, the couple is nowhere to be found as they had been killed the night before. As they continue on their journey, a massive burrowing worm-like monster suddenly bursts out of the ground, exposing the snake-like creature as one of its many tentacled ‘tongues’. Thrown from their horses, the men flee from the pursuing monster.
