Triple 9 (2016)
Triple 9 (2016) is an action thriller directed by John Hillcoat and written by Matt Cook. In Atlanta, a group of dishonest law enforcement and seasoned criminals, including Marcus Belmont (played by Anthony Mackie), Franco Rodriguez, and Gabe and Russell Welch, are coerced by the Russian Mob into robbing a heavily guarded bank in broad daylight. Terrell Thompkins, an ex-special forces member now working in the private sector, leads the team. Unhappy with the job, Irina Vaslov, head of the mob, takes Terrell’s family hostage and demands they rob a safe house for Secret Service files. The crew must come up with a plan to create a fake ‘999’ call, which means an officer is down, to use as a diversion during their heist. When Marcus is partnered with rookie Chris Allen, they see him as the perfect target.
But Chris survives the attack and begins to suspect his fellow officers are not on the right side of the law. As the police chief investigates the Russian Mob, evidence of corruption within the police force is uncovered. With mounting pressure, tensions rise within the crew as their darkest secrets are revealed. This leads to an intense and thrilling finale. The Atlanta criminal organization, led by ex-soldiers Michael Atwood and Russel Welch, includes Welch’s brother Gabe and corrupt cops Marcus Belmont and Jorge Rodriguez. Under the direction of matriarch Irina Vlaslov, the group is contracted for five heists by the Russian-Israeli mob. To create a diversion during a risky job, they plan to make a fake ‘officer down’ call. Unfortunately, Marcus’ new partner Chris becomes their target for the false shooting. As this unfolds, Chris’ uncle Detective Jeffrey Allen works to stop the criminals.
