Tron: Legacy (2010) is an American science fiction action film directed by Joseph Kosinski. In 1989, Kevin Flynn, who had been promoted to CEO of ENCOM International seven years earlier, mysteriously vanishes. Two decades later, his son Sam, now the primary shareholder of ENCOM, pulls a prank on the company by releasing their signature operating system for free online. Alan Bradley, an executive at ENCOM and Flynn’s longtime friend, approves of this act as he believes it aligns with Flynn’s values of open software. However, Sam is arrested for breaking and entering. Alan bails him out and reveals that there is a pager message from Flynn coming from his closed video arcade. Upon investigating, Sam discovers a secret basement housing a large computer and laser that unexpectedly digitizes and transports him into the Grid – Flynn’s virtual reality creation.

After being captured, he is sent to ‘the Games’ where he must engage in combat against a masked program known as Rinzler. In the midst of their battle, Sam sustains an injury and begins to bleed, revealing his true identity as a human or ‘User’. Rinzler then brings Sam to Clu, the Grid’s corrupted ruling program who bears striking resemblance to a younger version of Kevin. During a dangerous Light Cycle match, Clu almost kills Sam, but he is ultimately saved by Quorra – an apprentice of Flynn who leads him to Flynn’s hidden sanctuary beyond Clu’s territory. Flynn explains that he had been striving to create the ultimate computer system and had entrusted Clu and security program Tron with its development. However, their plans were disrupted when they discovered a group of naturally occurring ‘isomorphic algorithms’ (ISOs) that possessed the potential to unravel various natural mysteries.
