True Romance (1993) is an American romantic crime film directed by Tony Scott and written by Quentin Tarantino. In a Detroit theater showing kung fu films, Alabama Whitman meets Clarence Worley, an Elvis Presley fanatic. After spending the night at his downtown apartment, Alabama tearfully reveals that she is a call girl hired as a birthday present but has fallen in love with Clarence. The two tie the knot at City Hall the next day. Guided by an apparition of Elvis, Clarence decides to take revenge on Alabama’s abusive pimp Drexl Spivey. He finds Drexl at the brothel where Alabama used to work and shoots him before taking a bag he assumes belongs to her. However, upon opening it back at their apartment, they find a large amount of cocaine that Drexl had stolen from two drug pushers.

The couple seeks assistance from Clarence’s retired cop father, Clifford, whom they have been estranged from. He informs Clarence that the police believe Drexl’s death was a result of gang violence as revenge for the murdered drug dealers. After departing for Los Angeles, Vincenzo Coccotti, consigliere for mobster ‘Blue Lou Boyle’, interrogates Clifford. Clifford reveals that the mob is aware of Clarence’s theft as they discovered his driver’s license near Drexl’s body. Knowing his fate is sealed, Clifford sarcastically challenges Coccotti, who ultimately kills him. One of Coccotti’s associates then discovers a Los Angeles address attached to Clifford’s fridge. In LA, Clarence and Alabama meet Dick Ritchie, an aspiring actor and acquaintance of Clarence’s, who introduces them to actor and production assistant Elliot Blitzer.
