Tsunami: The Aftermath (2006)
Tsunami: The Aftermath (2006), an American disaster drama TV miniseries, portrays the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Written by Abi Morgan and directed by Bharat Nalluri, it is a joint production of HBO and the BBC. Through intertwining plotlines, we witness the personal tragedies faced by various characters. The Carter family, consisting of Ian, Susie, and their six-year-old daughter Martha, desperately search for her after she was carried away by the tsunami. In addition, Kim Peabody and her son Adam also scour the destruction for Kim’s husband James and her older son John.
At the same time, Than, a Thai waiter, must come to terms with the tragedy that has befallen his family and village. Along with other survivors, there are also several officials struggling to manage the situation. Among them is Tony Whittaker, an overwhelmed British consular officer whose trust in bureaucracy is being put to the test. Kathy Graham, an Australian aid worker representing a Christian charity, urges Whittaker to disregard bureaucratic red tape and focus on aiding those in need. Additionally, journalist Nick Fraser is investigating allegations of misconduct and negligence leading up to the disaster.
