Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010), a black comedy horror film directed and co-written by Eli Craig, follows a group of college kids who encounter two hillbillies – Tucker and Dale – while camping in West Virginia. The film takes us back in time to the events leading up to a horrific encounter between the two groups. As they make their way to a rundown lakefront cabin that Tucker recently purchased, the friends are stopped by Sheriff Gurr, who warns them about the hazards of the area. Meanwhile, Tucker and Dale are excited about their new vacation home but have no idea what’s about to unfold when they meet the group at a gas station. When Dale attempts to approach Allison, he unintentionally scares her and her friends due to his insecurities and appearance.
As Tucker and Dale reach their run-down cabin, they begin repairing it. In the nearby woods, Chad tells a chilling tale of a ‘Memorial Day Massacre’ that occurred two decades ago at the hands of hillbillies. As the college students go for a dip in the water, Allison startles and hits her head, causing Tucker and Dale to come to her rescue from drowning. However, her friends mistake this act as an abduction. The next day, when Allison wakes up in the cabin with Tucker and Dale, she is initially afraid but soon befriends them. Shortly after, the rest of the college kids arrive at the cabin with intentions to save Allison from her supposed ‘psychopathic captors’. Chuck runs off to get help while inside the cabin Dale and Allison bond. Meanwhile, Tucker accidentally disturbs a hive of hornets which causes him to flail around with his chainsaw. Unfortunately, this friendly gesture is misinterpreted by the college kids as aggression.
