Twister (1996)

Twister (1996), a disaster thriller directed by Jan de Bont, tells the story of young Jo and her family as they seek shelter from a powerful F5 tornado on their Oklahoma farm. The tornado destroys their home and tragically takes Jo’s father. Years later, Jo has become a meteorologist with an intense passion for tornadoes, leading a team of unconventional storm chasers. Her ex-husband, Bill Harding, now works as a TV weatherman and arrives in Oklahoma with his therapist fiancée to finalize their divorce. Jo shows Bill her invention, ‘Dorothy’, which has the potential to revolutionize tornado research and improve storm-warning systems. However, deploying the device requires getting dangerously close to the destructive forces of nature.

As Jo and her team hurry to chase a growing storm, she neglects to sign the divorce papers, causing Bill and Melissa to follow suit. Jonas Miller, a former colleague and rival storm chaser with corporate backing, has stolen Bill’s idea for his own Dorothy-like device. With plans to deploy it first and take credit for its design, Jonas has enraged Bill. Determined to see their project through, Bill reluctantly agrees to join Jo and the team for one day in order to successfully launch Dorothy. However, as they pursue the developing tornado, Jo’s truck veers off into a ditch. Taking shelter under a nearby bridge, Jo and Bill watch helplessly as the tornado destroys their vehicle and one of their four prototypes. Undeterred by this setback, Bill takes charge and leads the team in his own truck as they chase an intensifying F2 tornado amidst additional storms forming in the distance.
