Under the Dome (2013–2015) is a science-fiction mystery drama that debuted on CBS in 2013 and ended in 2015. The Kinship, an alien species with the power to take over individuals and control their every move, faced destruction on their own world when another species attempted to conquer it. In order to survive, they fled to a new planet by placing an egg inside a meteor and launching it into space. This egg was meant to infect the first living creature it encountered on a habitable planet. In 1988, the Kinship’s meteor crashed in Chester’s Mill where teenagers Melanie, Pauline, Sam, and Lyle discovered it while exploring the woods. As they each touched one of the four glowing handprints on the meteor, it opened to reveal a pink egg. However, Lyle’s actions caused Melanie’s untimely death and thwarted any chance of the Kinship spreading their influence. Melanie’s friends buried her and the alien egg, making a pact never to speak of what happened again.
In the year 2013, two archaeologists named Christine and Eva embark on a search for an unbroken egg thought to be located in Chester’s Mill. Their employer, a large energy company known as ‘Aktaion’, has previously studied other eggs that have crashed to Earth, all of which were unfortunately damaged upon impact. Despite this challenge, Christine and Eva successfully locate the prized intact egg. As Christine takes hold of it, a curious infection process begins, followed by a bright pink explosion that triggers the formation of a dome around them. Inside the dome, they are drawn into a cavernous space and enclosed in cocoons. Over the course of six weeks, many strange occurrences take place within the dome’s confines. Eventually, Joe and Norrie stumble upon the mini-dome containing the egg and become involved in protecting it as part of an elite group of four chosen by the Kinship – referred to as ‘the four hands’. Throughout their time guarding the dome and its contents, they witness frequent appearances of glowing pink stars – an intriguing source of energy that is most prominent on the egg itself.
