Unknown (2011) is an action-thriller film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. The story follows Martin Harris and his wife Liz as they arrive in Berlin for a biotechnology summit. Upon arriving at their hotel, Harris realizes he has left his briefcase at the airport and hastily takes a taxi to retrieve it. However, the taxi is involved in an accident and ends up in the Spree, knocking Harris unconscious. Thankfully, the driver rescues him but quickly disappears from the scene. After four days in a coma, Harris regains consciousness at a hospital and rushes back to his hotel, only to find Liz with another man claiming to be her husband. Despite his attempts to prove his identity by calling colleague Rodney Cole, Harris is met with disbelief. Determined to clear his name, he relies on his memory and writes down his schedule for the next day.
To his surprise, when he visits Professor Leo Bressler’s office- whom he had a meeting with on that same schedule – ‘Dr. Harris’ is already there waiting for him. As Harris tries to prove his identity, he presents identification and a family photo which both show his face. Overwhelmed by the identity crisis, he loses consciousness and later wakes up in the hospital. During this time, a terrorist named Smith murders Harris’s nurse but Harris manages to flee from him. Seeking assistance, Harris enlists the help of former Stasi agent Ernst Jürgen, who was also a private investigator. With only two leads – his father’s book on botany and Gina, an undocumented Bosnian taxi driver – Harris convinces Gina to aid him while Jürgen conducts research on both Harris and a biotechnology summit.
