Van Helsing (2016 — 2021)

The fantasy horror drama TV show, Van Helsing (2016–2021), features Kelly Overton as the lead character. The inspiration for the show comes from Zenescope Entertainment’s graphic novel series, Helsing. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where Vanessa Van Helsing, a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, awakens after her presumed death. She discovers that it has been three years since the eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera and vampires now control humanity due to the lack of sunlight caused by the ash. Vanessa possesses a unique blood composition that can turn vampires back into humans, making her humanity’s last hope. However, this also makes her a target for the vampires. She is protected by a Marine and doctor who rescued her so she can lead a resistance against the vampire threat.

In the second season, Vanessa travels east to Denver and reunites with her sister Scarlett, who has been trained from birth to kill vampires. In the third season, the sisters team up to hunt down and defeat the Elders, the original vampires. After Vanessa’s supposed demise in season four, the show shifts its focus to her biological daughters Violet and Jack as they confront a new breed of vampires known as ‘daywalkers’. They also face their biggest enemy yet: Countess Olivia von Dracula and her brides, who not only hold power over the vampire species but also hold political influence as former countess of Transylvania and de facto President of the United States.
