Varg Veum - The Dead Have It Easy (2012)

The eleventh addition to the Varg Veum franchise, titled Varg Veum – The Dead Have It Easy (2012), differs from the rest as it draws inspiration from various short stories in the collection with the same name instead of being directly adapted from a novel. Varg attempts to assist a terrified girl who has become lost in the woods at night, but is unable to prevent her tragic death. What led this young asylum seeker to flee? Was it an accident, or was she intentionally killed as a warning to others within her same circles?

Together, Varg and Karin uncover that the deceased girl was extensively involved in a scheme where young women were forcibly brought into the country and shamelessly exploited at asylum reception centers. Authorities at high government levels exert pressure on the police department to impede any further investigation. What are they trying to conceal? Time is not on Varg’s side as he races against it, determined to expose those behind this ring of corruption before more innocent lives are lost.
